Colonel Danforth Park

I went out landscape painting with Don this Sunday. We went to Colonel Danforth Park in Scarborough, through which the Highland Creek makes its way to Lake Ontario. I have a few painting from that park and of that creek, but I think this one really captures the colours you can see in it on a nice sunny day.

New site!!!

Posted: May 26th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

I just posted my new site which I simplified quite a bit. I added a great new Highslide pop-up window gallery and included a link to this blog. So at the same time, this is the first public day of my new blog. I will now put up my sketches and studies here, while my main site will be for developed work. Keep an eye on this blog to see my gesture drawings and short poses from my Sundays at the TSA and see my latest plein-air landscapes!!

I didn’t have a particularly good drawing night yesterday. This one was my best. Esther was the model.

My friend Don and I went out to Colonel Danforth Park out in Scarborough today. It was cold and windy, but the Sun was out and that was reason enough to stay and paint. Don’s easel was blown over by a sudden gust so we ended our day a bit sooner than expected. During my three hours in the park, I completed this painting.

The Ravine

Last Monday, I went out to the Ravine and did a quick painting sketch of this bright yellow flowering tree. I aimed to keep it loose and lively, trying to capture the gesture of the composition first and colour relations second. Here are both the first lay-in and the final sketch. I spent about an hour on it.

The product of today’s TSA open life drawing session. I’m a bit rusty — it’s been a while — but not a bad start to my Summer.
